Manchester Watch Works P. marcidus Diver BGW9 Super-LumiNova Replica Watches

Manchester Watch Works (or MWW) is a relatively young and popular brand with a number of successful Kickstarter-launched projects under its belt. Its latest project—the P. Marcidus dive watch—is a limited edition release with a quite an unusual backstory in that a portion of all proceeds will be donated to help raise awareness to its namesake, the P. marcidus, or as it’s better known, the blobfish. The MMW “Blobfish” (naturally, this is now the name preferred by those who purchased the piece) is a limited release of just 99 available pieces—this isn’t a pre-order—with 6.5% of each sale going towards a cause championed by the son of MWW founder, Douglas Kim.

If you’ve ever seen a blobfish, you’ll be relieved to learn that the watch that bears its name is much better looking. In fact, the overall aesthetic seems to be a mixture of Seiko references, with the dial pulling from the long-discontinued Seiko SUS series and the case bearing a clear resemblance to the 62mas.

The dial is blue and features a sunburst finish. The hours are marked with thick rectangles, stick markers and numerals, a combination that does crowd the dial a bit but it’s by no means hard to read. There is a date window at six o’clock, replacing the “6.” The dial also features the brand’s logomark and “MWW,” as well as the water resistance rating and the “AUTOMATIC” designator. The markers and simple rectangle hands are coated in BGW9 Super-LumiNova replica watches.

The 200-meter case measures a reasonable size of 40mm in diameter and 49mm lug-to-lug. The height of the watch is 14mm to the top of the domed sapphire crystal and it takes 20mm straps at the lugs, which are drilled. The watch comes shipped on a stainless steel bracelet with solid end links.

At the heart of the Blobfish is the Seiko NH35 automatic movement. This ever-popular caliber features 24-jewels, it hacks and hand winds, and it has a 40-hour power reserve.
Overall, the Manchester Watch Works P. Marcidus “Blobfish” is solid diver that’s sure to have some broad appeal. And at only $310, it’s a solid deal, too.
